Wapusk LNG
Exports from shore of the Hudson Bay
Wapusk LNG was established to create an export terminal for liquefied natural gas (LNG) at a location north of the old, abandoned Port Nelson site on the southwestern shores of Hudson Bay. The coastline of Hudson Bay in this area is unique in that it lacks the presence of coastal communities and common municipal infrastructure: roads, rail, power and accommodations for lodging. The location is also over 2,300 km from the prolific natural gas production areas of western Canada.
While Hudson Bay does offer excellent coastline locations for development, all with excellent access to attractive arctic trade routes to Europe, it lacks essential elements required for traditional LNG export infrastructure: access to robust stable long-term supplies of natural gas and electrical power.
LNG by Rail
Canada’s Virtual Pipeline
To overcome these limitations Wapusk LNG proposes an LNG by Rail concept where LNG is manufactured in southern Saskatchewan and transported by rail to tidewater at a New Port Nelson on Hudson Bay. This concept will be an industry first and will create a “Virtual Pipeline” from the TransCanada main natural gas transmission line near Regina SK to tidewater at a New Port Nelson site on the shores of Hudson Bay. This concept proposes to utilize the existing rail transportation network of CN and Hudson Bay Rail to avoid the construction of a multi-billion expense of building a 2,300 km pipeline from BC to tidewater. At tidewater, Wapusk proposes to install a floating LNG Storage vessel (FSU) to inventory LNG for further transport to export markets.
Keewatin Capital Partners
Meaningful infrastructure. Economic Growth.
Keewatin Capital Partners (KCP) is taking an early, active role in developing meaningful infrastructure projects that drive growth in Canada’s economy. We are industry innovators – committed to identifying and advancing opportunities that expand trade both domestically and internationally.
KCP brings together a team of private equity participants, corporate sponsors, and experienced industry professionals who combine financial capacity, technical expertise, and strategic vision. Our leadership team draws from both Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities, reflecting our commitment to collaboration, inclusion, and shared prosperity.
While KCP is not an Indigenous organization, we actively partner with First Nation communities, helping them participate in – and ultimately own – key infrastructure and resource projects that create long-term economic benefits and community growth. Our development plans for Wapusk LNG see six (6) key First Nations being issued controlling interest in Wapusk LNG within the first 12 months of development, and up to 90% Indigenous ownership by the time the project reaches the FEED milestone (Front End Engineering and Design), expected to be reached by month 24.
Keewatin Capital Partners is advancing Wapusk LNG in response to the global demand for secure, ethical, and sustainable energy. This project represents a strategic, first-mover opportunity to open a new northern trade route through Hudson Bay, directly linking Canadian LNG production to European and global markets.
