The 2020–2025 period has created a rare convergence of geopolitical and economic forces that open a historic window of opportunity for Keewatin Capital Partners (KCP) and its Wapusk LNG project.

Russia’s ongoing war with Ukraine has triggered a seismic shift in global energy and trade dynamics. NATO members are under renewed pressure to increase defence spending, while Canada has committed to strengthening its Arctic presence—both to meet NATO obligations and to advance its own sovereignty and resource development objectives.

Europe, seeking to end its dependence on Russian natural gas, is aggressively pursuing alternate and reliable sources of energy. Early attempts by Germany to secure Canadian LNG supplies were thwarted by political hesitation, but Europe’s demand for secure, non-Russian LNG remains strong and immediate.

At the same time, the United States’ shift toward protectionist trade policies has forced Canada to diversify its trade relationships and develop new global trade corridors—particularly through the Arctic. The federal government now regards the development of Hudson Bay trade routes as critical to our national interest, including Arctic sovereignty, Indigenous reconciliation, northern development, and expanded access to European and South American markets.
